Great & Terrible Potions

by Ben Craven

supported by
Robert Wallace

Robert Wallace Great Prog album with so much detail. Superb musicianship and very well constructed. Ben obviously loves what he does and so do I.
VERY enjoyable journey. Favorite track: Diabolique.
Michael Reilly

Michael Reilly Great & Terrible Potions showcases the integral elements of progressive rock: a grand and inventive scope; extensive and creatively varied instrumentation; epic guitar solos; and a unique voice (all definitions). This is exciting, quality prog from a songwriter in great form. Favorite track: No Specific Harm.
Dr. Beaf

Dr. Beaf I'm tipping Ben's dad has a very similar collection of records as mine. Force fed Yes and Floyd on road trips until we loved it. He's done a smashing job. Best symphonic style prog-rock release since the 80's. Favorite track: No Specific Harm.
Craigory Bacon

Craigory Bacon This is THE BEST Prog release in years. Ben brings the goods with tons of lush keys and strings, piercing and precise guitar lines (ala David Gilmour), and two great longer compositions. Favorite track: No Specific Harm.

I used to be afflicted with an alien point of view I used to think the legends were true There never was any question, there never was any doubt I knew the mantras inside and out I'm ready to lose the battle, I'm ready to lose the war None of it seems to matter, not like it did before I don't wanna know your story, I don't wanna know the score Keep the buzz away from my door There's nothing that you can tell me I already don't wanna hear Won't be the one to boost your esteem I'm ready to lose the battle, I'm ready to lose the war None of it seems to matter, not like it did before I'm running a different direction, I'm running a different race Got to get away from this place Nobody saw me coming, no-one will see me leave I've torn the heart from outside my sleeve I'm ready to lose the battle, I'm ready to lose the war None of it seems to matter, not like it did before

A spoonful of fantasy A droplet of make believe Splashes of meant to be Four parts in harmony Essence of pixie dust helps you soar ever so high Drink me down gingerly, I'll be your best friend for life Invent your reality Beware of your tendencies For memories unbearable It's great and it's terrible Haunted by memories Poisoned by jealousies Nightmares unspeakable Ambitions unreachable Fed by impossible visions of what might have been Glorious futures extinguished before they begin Invent your reality Beware of your tendencies For memories unbearable It's great and it's terrible Hold on to reality Beware of your tendencies For memories unbearable It's great and it's terrible

about

"Craven is a heavy-duty prog-rock monster that's unafraid of invoking irresistible hooks and melodies. The combination of expansive, orchestrated arrangements and intelligent songwriting make this one of 2011's most intriguing and captivating releases." - Anil Prasad, innerviews.org
